Sicily,
crossroads of the Mediterranean, has inherited of all the ancient cultures (phenicians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabic, Norman) and this extreme mixture worked this surprisingly rich area of history and traditions.
3 kilometres are separating this largest island of the Mediterranean from the Italian peninsula. It is made of volcanic solid masses in the East (from which the Etna), of plains in the north, hills and high plateaus in the south pointing out close Africa, and its islands the Eoliennes.
The climate is Mediterranean, the summers are very hot. The towns of Sicily are unforgettable: Palermo, place chief and chef d’oeuvre natural and artistic (a profusion of monuments of which the Palatine Vault), with its sparkling gulf; Agrigente and the "valley of the temples", with the remarkable ancient ruins; Catane, so near to Etna; Cefalu, old borough of fishermen and famous seaside resort; Sélinonte, old and splendid Greek city; Marsala, the city of the wine; Taormine, incomparable site on the Ionian sea; and of course Syracuse, extraordinary and attractive.
And the Sicilian kitchen is of an equal variety! all kinds of pastes and gnocchi’s, many fish (tunas, swordfishes, sea-breams...), very rich cooked dishes, vegetables and citrus fruits with profusion, cakes and almond pastes, ices with thousand perfumes, etc... And the Italian vineyard which is the most extended and where has been born since a few years some very good wines.
Sicily is undoubtedly one of the most interesting areas in term of discovered in all the fields. It is also a beautiful place of holidays at the sun.
